Dashboard Groups

Dashboard groups can be used to organize dashboards, which is especially useful when you have hundreds of dashboards to work with. A dashboard group is a named collection of dashboards with an optional description. A single dashboard can be in multiple groups, so you can also think about the groups as "tags" that help to organize the dashboards according to purpose or target audience.

Overview Overview

There are 3 built-in groups:

  1. Favorites: Any dashboards that have been marked as a favorite by the user. Not shown, if the user does not have any.
  2. Samples: The Cluvio sample dashboards, which can optionally be hidden.
  3. All: All the dashboards the user has access to.

Note:

  • A single dashboard can be in multiple groups.
  • When a dashboard group is deleted, the dashboards in it are not deleted.
  • Access permissions are managed on the level of dashboards - dashboard groups do not affect permissions.
  • Users only see the dashboard groups that are marked as "Display for all users" and viewers only see those groups that contain at least one dashboard that is accessible - i.e. a viewer user would never see an empty dashboard group.

Favorite Dashboards

The special Favorites dashboard group allows each user to pick their own set of dashboards they use often.

If a user has at least one favorite dashboard, the Favorites group is open after login or accessing the account. In case the user has no favorites, the last accessed dashboard group is selected.

To add/remove dashboards to/from the Favorites group, use the star icon on the dashboard tile/box on the dashboards overview page.

Overview Overview

Dashboard Group Actions

The dashboard groups actions are available in a drop-down menu on the right side of the dashboard groups bar. The drop-down menu displays actions that apply to all groups, as well as actions for the currently selected group.

Create Group

info

Only admins or analysts can create and edit dashboard groups.

To create a new dashboard group, click the "Create Group" in the dashboard groups drop-down menu. The dialog lets you choose the group name, optional description and select the dashboards for the group. Select "Shared" if the group should be visible to other users, otherwise this would be your personal group, visible only to you.

Edit Group

Adding or removing a dashboard to/from dashboard groups can also be done from the dashboard actions.

Display for all users

When a dashboard group is created, it is initially only visible to the analyst who created it. To make it available to other users, choose Display for all users from the drop-down menu.

A group displayed for all users is visible to:

  • All analysts.
  • All viewers that have access to at least one dashboard from the group.

Once enabled, this option can be disabled by selecting Display only for me from the drop-down menu.

Remove Group

To remove a dashboard group, choose Remove Group from the drop-down menu. When a group is removed, the dashboards in that group are not deleted.

Reorder Groups

To change the order of the dashboard groups, choose the Reorder Groups action and use drag & drop to reorder the groups as desired.

Sample Group Actions

The Samples group is a special built-in group that shows the Cluvio sample dashboards. The actions for this group are different than for a regular group and allow changing the visibility of the sample dashboards without having to delete them.

Use "Hide Samples for Viewers" to make the samples group/dashboards only visible to analysts. Use "Hide Samples for Everyone" to hide for all users.

If hidden, you can make them visible again later from the same drop-down menu.
